The first half of the 2023-2024 school year in Northeast Ohio was chalk full of tasting Totally Tasty local items! Among nine different school districts over 4,000 students tried something new or local. Some of the foods we tried include:
- Shagbark chips and scratch-made salsa
- Roasted sweet potatoes
- Spinach salad
- Hydroponic lettuce
- Apples
Once students tried the local item, they voted “Loved it, Liked it, Not for me” on the sample. This was fun way to engage the students and see what they thought. Let us tell you- students LOVED it. Don’t take our word for it, this is what students had to say:
- “I want a lifetime supply [Shagbark Chips]!”
- “Best sweet potatoes I have ever tasted”
- “I can taste the difference of this spinach!”
- “This is the perfect lettuce”
- 20/10, I love it [local apples]!”
Some schools even had the chance to meet Munch the Fox from the Ohio Department of Education. We have had such a great time trying local (and maybe even new) foods. We are ready to try some new local items this spring!
