Parents: A Child’s Single Biggest Influence
Farm to school programs are most successful when integrated throughout the school – fresh, local food in the cafeteria, nutrition education, plant science in the school garden, and agricultural farm visits. But none of these can ever replace the critical role parents play in shaping children’s lifestyles and food choices.
How can I help?
Your involvement in any farm to school initiative is likewise invaluable. The most foundational ways to participate are to be informed, support educators, and encourage your children by being a role model. You can also help to establish a farm to school program or school garden project and volunteer to chaperone field trips.
- Talk to your child’s school staff about establishing a farm to school program or planting a school garden
