Totally Tasty events are a fun and engaging way for students to taste test fresh, healthy and (when available) local food items. Child nutrition staff work alongside our team to choose the food item, how it is served and how the students vote. We partner with schools to understand what works best for them and run the event to best fit the individual needs each partner. Our goal is to make tasting new foods as easy and fun as possible.

To engage students, after they taste the food item they vote on it. To vote on the sample, each student drops a ball into one of three buckets: “Love it”, “Like it”, or “Not for me”.  The students love having the opportunity to voice their opinions about the samples, they have fun doing it too.

During the 2024-2025 school year, we hosted 15 Totally Tasty events that supported partnerships with 11 school districts, 11 local farms, and engaged over 2,800 students.

The top three local food items that students tried this school year include:

  • Hydroponic lettuce
  • Dough Gos Whole Grain Cookies
  • Spinach

We want to give a HUGE shout out to the schools and school districts we partnered with to host Totally Tasty events. We also want to say thank you to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for sending out Munch the Fox to celebrate our Totally Tasty events.

Thanks to these schools and school districts, we reached so many students across Northeast Ohio. We can’t wait to see what next year holds for our Totally Tasty events.
